Oxygen Flowmeter with Humidifier – Medical Oxygen Flowmeters

The Tecnomed oxygen flowmeter with humidifier delivers measured oxygen from a wall or pendant terminal unit to the patient. A brass body carries a graduated flow tube and a detachable 200 ml polycarbonate humidification jar, giving precise flow up to 15 Lpm. Single, twin, hose-fed and all-metal versions are available with DIN, BS, AFNOR or AFROX probes.

Overview

An oxygen flowmeter plugs into the terminal unit through a gas-specific probe, takes pipeline oxygen at 4 bar and lets the nurse set the delivered flow on a graduated tube. Tecnomed flowmeters are shaped for one-handed adjustment at the bed head, with a clearly scaled tube readable from standing height and a control knob that holds its setting. The humidification jar screws off without tools, so it can be refilled, cleaned and refitted during a normal ward round rather than taken out of service.

The main body is machined from brass for dimensional stability under repeated probe insertion. The bottom jar and the top humidifier head are polycarbonate, chosen for impact resistance and optical clarity so the water level stays visible; jar volume is 200 ml with a working humidification capacity of 0 to 15 Lpm. The complete jar assembly can be sterilised in a 134 °C autoclave, which lets infection control treat it as a reusable item instead of consumable plastic.

Four configurations cover normal ward practice. TEC41.01 is the standard flowmeter with humidifier; TEC41.02 adds a hose and remote jar so the humidifier can hang away from the outlet; TEC41.03 is a twin unit feeding two patients or two therapies from adjacent terminals; TEC41.04 is an all-metal flowmeter without the jar for dry oxygen delivery. Probes are supplied to DIN 13260-2, BS 5682, AFNOR NF S 90-116 or AFROX SANS 1409 to suit the installed terminal units in wards, intensive care, emergency and recovery areas.

Frequently asked questions

How much water does the humidifier jar hold and how often is it changed?

The bottom jar holds 200 ml and is filled to the marked level with sterile water. At typical ward flows it is checked each shift and topped up or replaced according to the hospital's infection control policy. The jar unscrews by hand, so replacement takes seconds and does not require the flowmeter to be removed from the terminal unit.

Can the flowmeter be used without humidification?

Yes. The TEC41.04 metal flowmeter is supplied without a jar for dry oxygen delivery, which suits short-term and low-flow therapy where humidification is not indicated. On the jar versions the humidifier can also be removed and a dry nipple fitted. Choose the metal version when the flowmeter will be cleaned frequently or used in transport areas.

Which probe do I need for my existing outlets?

The probe must match the terminal unit standard installed in the building. Tecnomed supplies flowmeter probes to DIN 13260-2, BS 5682, AFNOR NF S 90-116 and AFROX SANS 1409. If you are unsure, send a photograph of an existing outlet face or the outlet's product code and we will confirm the correct probe before production.

Is the flowmeter suitable for paediatric flows?

The standard scale runs from 0 to 15 Lpm, which covers adult and most paediatric therapy. For neonatal and low-flow work where fine resolution below 1 Lpm is needed, state the required range with the enquiry so the correct flow tube is fitted at the factory.
