Oxygen Therapy Device – Cylinder Regulator with Flowmeter and Humidifier

A Tecnomed oxygen therapy device combines regulator, flowmeter and humidifier in one unit that regulates and humidifies the pressure coming from a high-pressure oxygen cylinder. The chrome-plated brass body accepts up to 230 bar, delivers 4-5 bar regulated output and 0-15 L/min adjustable flow, with a sterilisable polycarbonate humidifier bottle and optional emergency outlet.

Overview

An oxygen therapy device is a complete cylinder-side therapy set: it reduces high cylinder pressure, meters the flow the clinician wants and humidifies the gas before it reaches the patient, all from one body clamped to the cylinder. This removes the need to assemble a separate regulator, flowmeter and humidifier, which matters most in transport, emergency and outpatient settings where the cylinder is moved between locations. The pressure gauge displays contents over a 0-315 bar range and the flow control sets delivery between 0 and 15 L/min.

The body is chrome-plated brass and the humidifier bottle is high-resistance polycarbonate suitable for sterilisation at 121 °C, so the wetted part is reusable rather than disposable. Maximum gas supply pressure is 230 bar and the regulator output pressure is fixed in the 4-5 bar band that hospital equipment expects. The bottle detaches for filling and cleaning, and the whole device is dimensioned so the gauge and flow tube stay readable when the cylinder is standing in a trolley or strapped in an ambulance mount.

Four variants cover the common duties. TEC41.06 is the standard therapy device; TEC41.07 adds an emergency outlet so a second device can be fed from the same cylinder; TEC41.08 is a compact dry regulator for ambulance use with a direct-reading L/min gauge and no humidifier bottle; TEC41.09 is a regulator with gas outlet, giving a gas-specific take-off for connecting hospital equipment. They are used in emergency departments, ambulances, clinics, home-care programmes and any area served by cylinders rather than a pipeline.

Frequently asked questions

How does an oxygen therapy device differ from a plain cylinder regulator?

A plain regulator only reduces pressure; the flowmeter and humidifier are separate items you attach afterwards. The oxygen therapy device integrates all three, so the cylinder arrives at the patient ready to use with a set flow and humidified gas. It is the better choice for transport, emergency and outpatient work where speed and fewer loose parts matter.

Why is the ambulance version supplied dry?

A humidifier bottle holding water is a liability in a moving vehicle, where it can spill and where short transport times rarely need humidification. The TEC41.08 dry regulator for ambulance therefore has no bottle, carries a direct-reading L/min gauge and presents a compact profile that fits standard ambulance cylinder mounts.

Can the humidifier bottle be autoclaved?

The bottle is high-resistance polycarbonate specified for sterilisation, with 121 °C given as the sterilisation method for this device. Empty and detach it before processing and refit only when fully dry. Follow the hospital's own reprocessing policy for cycle count and replacement intervals.

What output pressure does the device deliver?

Regulated output is 4-5 bar, matching the pressure hospital oxygen equipment is designed for, and flow to the patient is separately adjustable from 0 to 15 L/min. Cylinder contents are read on the 0-315 bar display, and the device accepts cylinders pressurised up to 230 bar.
