Vacuum Jar – Suction Collection Jars and Disposable Vacuum Jars

Tecnomed vacuum jars collect aspirated fluid from the suction regulator at the bed head, pendant or trolley. The reusable graduated jar lets staff read collected volume directly, while the disposable vacuum jar suits single-use collection protocols. Both mount to Tecnomed vacuum regulators and can be combined with a trap jar to protect the regulator and pipeline.

TEC41.13 Suction Jars and Disposable Vacuum Jars – TEC41.13

Overview

A vacuum jar is the collection vessel between the patient suction line and the vacuum regulator. Fluid drawn from the patient is captured in the jar so that only air passes on to the regulator and the hospital vacuum pipeline. Tecnomed supplies the jar as part of the suction assembly, sized and threaded to fit the TEC41.10 vacuum regulator and the Venturi version, so the regulator, jar and lid work as one tested set rather than a field-assembled combination.

The reusable jar is moulded in clear plastic with a graduated scale up to 2000 ml, which lets nursing staff record collected volume without decanting. The sealing lid carries the inlet and vacuum ports and a carrying tab, and the assembly is designed for cleaning and reprocessing between patients. The disposable vacuum jar offers the same mounting arrangement in a single-use body for departments that prefer to discard the whole collection vessel, removing reprocessing from the workflow entirely.

Both jars are specified in intensive care, operating theatres, emergency departments, delivery rooms and general wards, mounted on bed head units, pendants or vacuum trolleys. Where aspiration volumes are high, an additional trap jar can be fitted between the collection jar and the regulator to catch overflow before it reaches the mechanism. Jars are ordered per bed or per regulator, and are commonly quoted together with vacuum regulators as a complete suction package.

Frequently asked questions

Should I choose reusable or disposable jars?

Reusable graduated jars have the lower running cost and let staff read collected volume on a fixed scale, but they require a reprocessing workflow. Disposable jars remove cleaning and cross-contamination handling at the cost of consumable spend. Many hospitals run both: reusable on general wards and disposable in intensive care, theatre and isolation areas.

Will the jar fit my existing suction regulator?

The jars are dimensioned for Tecnomed vacuum regulators, including the TEC41.10 and the TEC41.12 Venturi version, and mount directly without adapters. If you are fitting them to another manufacturer's regulator, send the regulator model and a photograph of the jar mount so compatibility can be confirmed before shipping.

How do I stop fluid reaching the vacuum pipeline?

Fit a trap jar between the collection jar and the regulator. It captures overflow before it can enter the regulator body and the pipeline behind it, protecting both the device and the hospital vacuum plant. This is the standard precaution in high-volume aspiration areas such as theatre and intensive care.

Vacuum Regulators

The Tecnomed vacuum regulator sets the suction drawn from the hospital central vacuum system at the point of care. A chrome-plated brass body carries an on-off valve, flow adjustment control and suction value indicator, and regulates from -250 mbar minimum to -1000 mbar maximum. Paediatric scaling, a trap jar and a Venturi version are available.

Medical Vacuum Plant

The Tecnomed medical vacuum plant is the central suction source for patient rooms, intensive care units and operating theatres. Three vacuum pumps connected in parallel are run at equal time intervals by an equal-aging PLC control panel, negative pressure is stored in twin tanks and the line is protected by a double bacteria filter set before it reaches the wards.

Vacuum Tanks, Bacteria Filters and PLC Panels

These are the three components that turn vacuum pumps into a complete medical vacuum plant. Galvanized steel vacuum tanks of 500 to 2000 litres store the negative pressure, bacteria filter groups protect the line down to 30 microns with a by-pass and scum collection jar, and the PLC control panel runs the pumps with soft start and equal aging.
