Medical Vacuum Plant – Triplex Suction Systems (TEC51.22)

The Tecnomed medical vacuum plant is the central suction source for patient rooms, intensive care units and operating theatres. Three vacuum pumps connected in parallel are run at equal time intervals by an equal-aging PLC control panel, negative pressure is stored in twin tanks and the line is protected by a double bacteria filter set before it reaches the wards.

TEC51.22 Medical Vacuum Plant – TEC51.22

Overview

A medical vacuum plant creates and maintains the negative pressure that every suction outlet in the hospital draws on. In the TEC51.22 configuration, vacuum pumps are connected in parallel and the control panel starts each of them at equal time and intervals, so wear is spread evenly and no single machine accumulates all the running hours. The vacuum generated is held in the tanks, and the air drawn out of the line passes through bacteria line filters before it can reach the pumps or the exhaust.

The PLC control panel is the operating centre of the plant. It shows whether each pump is active or passive, provides a soft start that prevents pump wear, and manages the equal-aging sequence that extends pump life. Triplex operation means the plant continues to supply the required vacuum while one pump is isolated for a maintenance kit change, which is what makes the system acceptable for theatre and intensive care duty.

Seven models cover system capacities from 25 m³/h to 305 m³/h per pump at 50 Hz, with electric motor powers from 0,75 kW to 7,5 kW. Every model is supplied with three pumps, two vacuum tanks of 500, 1000 or 2000 litres, a double bacteria filter set, a complete connection equipment set and one PLC control panel. Tecnomed medical vacuum plants are designed and manufactured according to HTM 02-01 and HTM 2021, and the system complies with MDD 93/42/EEC and EN ISO 7396-1 standards.

Frequently asked questions

What does equal-aging control mean?

The PLC panel starts each of the three parallel pumps at equal time and intervals instead of always running the same lead machine. Running hours are therefore shared, the pumps age together and the interval between overhauls is predictable across the set.

How is the plant protected from contamination?

Negative pressure drawn into the vacuum tanks passes through bacteria line filters, supplied as a double set so one can be isolated for element replacement while the other stays in service. The filter group also carries a scum collection jar and optional clog indicator.

How do we select the right model?

Selection follows the diversified suction demand of the hospital, calculated from the number and type of vacuum outlets. The range runs from 25 m³/h to 305 m³/h per pump, so the model is fixed once the outlet schedule and simultaneity factor of the project are known.

What if the plant room is small or has a low ceiling?

Two alternative layouts exist with the same capacity table. The rack system plant (TEC51.23) stacks the pumps in a modular cabinet for narrow spaces, and the tank-over plant (TEC51.24) mounts twin pumps on a horizontal tank for rooms with limited headroom.
