Overview
An anaesthetic gas scavenging system is a dedicated extraction circuit, separate from medical vacuum, that carries waste anaesthetic gases away from the patient and out of the building. The TEC51.29 unit is designed to remove the anaesthetic gas mixture discharged from AGSS sockets, drawing it through the scavenging pipeline at the low pressure and high flow the application requires rather than the deep vacuum used for suction.
The system is assembled on a chassis together with its control panel, and is offered in single and double blower versions so that a standby machine can be specified where theatre schedules do not allow downtime. Blowers are oil-free and air-cooled, which removes the need for lubrication management and cooling water in the plant room and gives high efficiency against continuous working conditions. Tecnomed AGSS systems are manufactured in accordance with MDD 93/42/EEC and HTM 02-01 standards.
At the room end, AGSS terminal units are available in surface type and under plaster type versions together with the matching AGSS probe, and AGSS is one of the six gas services that can be built into the Tecnomed wall gas module. Typical installations are operating theatres, anaesthesia induction and recovery rooms, and any area where inhalational anaesthetic agents are administered.

Frequently asked questions
Why can't the medical vacuum plant be used for scavenging?
Scavenging needs high flow at low negative pressure and must never mix waste anaesthetic agents with the clinical suction system. A dedicated AGSS blower unit provides that duty and discharges the gas mixture outside the building, which is why it is specified as a separate system.
When is a double blower version needed?
A double blower gives duty and standby operation, so theatres can keep running while one machine is serviced. It is the usual choice where the operating suite works continuously or where a single point of failure is not acceptable to the hospital.
What is installed in the theatre itself?
AGSS terminal units are fitted as surface type or under plaster type outlets, with an AGSS probe connecting the anaesthetic machine scavenging hose. AGSS is also one of the six gas options available in the Tecnomed wall gas module.
