Overview
A medical air plant takes ambient air and turns it into a gas fit for patient use. Screw compressors deliver compressed air at 7 to 10 bar depending on the machine, and that air is stored in the receiver tanks. From the tanks it passes through the air dryers, which remove moisture, and then through the sterilisation chain: a particle trap, an oil trap and an activated carbon filter. Once the air meets medical requirements, the regulator group reduces line pressure to the value the hospital pipeline needs and releases it into the medical air system.
The TEC51.20 configuration is built around three screw compressors so that the plant keeps running while one machine is under maintenance or has failed. Compressor capacities run from 41,4 m³/h to 187,2 m³/h per machine at a maximum of 10 bar, with electric motor powers of 5,5 kW (7,5 hp) up to 22 kW (30 hp). Receiver capacity is either 500 or 1000 litres with two or three tanks, and each model is supplied with two filter sets, two dryers, one medical air regulator group for 4-7 bar and a complete connection equipment set.
Tecnomed medical air plants are designed and manufactured according to ISO 7391-1, ISO 7396-2, HTM 02-01 and HTM 2022, and the system complies with HTM 02-01. Model selection follows the flow calculation of the project, so a small district hospital and a large tertiary centre each receive a plant sized for their real diversified demand rather than a fixed package. Plant rooms can be arranged in line or in an L layout depending on the space available, and options such as automatic drain systems and filter clogging indicators can be added at the component level.

Frequently asked questions
Why does a medical air plant need three compressors?
Medical air is a patient-critical supply, so the plant must keep working with one machine out of service. A triplex arrangement lets one compressor be taken down for maintenance or failure while the remaining machines still cover peak demand, which is the redundancy hospital standards expect.
