Tecnomed ceiling hanging and rail systems take infusion equipment, serum bottles and monitors off the floor and onto anodized aluminium rails above the bed. The Uni system TEC81.20 uses a curved hanger rail with serum and infusion carriers, while the IO suspension system TEC81.30 runs straight rails up to 6,000 mm long with dual infusion and monitor carriers, both rated up to 80 kg/m.

Overview

The Uni ceiling hanging system TEC81.20 is a ceiling infusion system that lets medical devices be attached above the patient and contributes to optimal patient care. A curved anodized aluminium hanger rail is fixed to the ceiling over the bed and carries sliding carriers that can be positioned anywhere along its length, giving unobstructed access to the patient from every side. The profile is robust enough for high loads, the rail can be mounted at different levels to suit the room, and the system allows up to 100% flexibility of movement under the ceiling.

Carriers are stainless steel and run on silent bearings. The serum carrier TEC81.20.02 has five hooks, one-handed height adjustment, eight silent bearings and a total load of 15 kg. The infusion carrier TEC81.20.03 uses a 1,750 mm pipe, eight silent bearings, 2 kg serum transport and a 40 kg total load. The Uni system hanger rail TEC81.20.01 is aluminium with a 57.5 x 47.5 x 5 mm profile, a maximum load of 80 kg/m and a standard U/L/O size of approximately 2,100 x 1,400 mm, supplied with two end caps and three connectors.

The IO ceiling suspension system TEC81.30 is the straight-rail version for larger bays and multi-bed rooms. Its IO system hanger TEC81.30.01 is anodized aluminium with the same 57.5 x 47.5 x 5 mm profile, a durability of 80 kg per 1,000 mm, a maximum load capacity of 80 kg/m and lengths up to 6,000 mm. The dual infusion carrier TEC81.20.04 carries 1,550 mm tubing, a height-adjustable infusion holder and eight hooks in two sets of four at 2 kg per hook and 40 kg per tripod, and the monitor carrier TEC81.30.02 runs on parallel rails with a 2,500 mm link rail and an 80 kg total load.

Ceiling hanging systems are used in intensive care units, neonatal and paediatric intensive care, high-dependency and post-anaesthesia units, dialysis units and oncology day rooms - anywhere pumps, bottles and monitors would otherwise crowd the floor around the bed. Rails are produced to the span and radius of the actual room, with other sizes available and the minimum width determined by the bend radius. They are frequently installed together with Tecnomed bed head units, bridge type intensive care units and pendants so that services above and beside the bed work as one system.

What is the difference between the Uni and IO ceiling systems?

The Uni system TEC81.20 uses a curved hanger rail that wraps around the bed, which suits single bays and rooms where the carrier has to follow the bed head. The IO system TEC81.30 uses straight parallel rails that can run up to 6,000 mm, which suits longer multi-bed bays and the parallel-rail monitor carrier.

How much weight can the ceiling rails carry?

Both the Uni hanger rail and the IO system hanger are rated at a maximum of 80 kg per metre, with the IO hanger specified as 80 kg per 1,000 mm. Individual carriers are rated separately: 15 kg for the serum carrier, 40 kg for the infusion and dual infusion carriers, and 80 kg for the monitor carrier.

Can the rail be made to fit a non-standard room?
