Medical Gas Ball Valves - Oxygen-Cleaned Brass Valves DN15 to DN65 (TEC31.07)

Tecnomed medical gas ball valves are produced compatible with medical gases after every part has been degreased, with an oxygen-compatible food oil used in the oil-free spherical section. Bodies are MS 58 drop forged brass, sandblasted and nickel plated, and the range runs from 101-MGV at DN15 to 107-MGV at DN65 for 16 bar service.

TEC31.07 Medical Gas Ball Valves – TEC31.07

Overview

A medical gas ball valve isolates a branch, a riser or a zone of the hospital pipeline. Tecnomed valves are produced compatible with medical gases - oxygen, vacuum and medical air among them - after all parts have been degreased, and an oxygen compatible food oil is used in the oil-free spherical part of the valve. That degreasing and lubrication regime is what separates a medical gas valve from an industrial ball valve of the same nominal size, and it is why these valves can be installed on oxygen service.

The body is MS 58 drop forged brass with sandblasted, nickel plated surfaces. Sealing is by two O-rings and two PTFE seats inside the body, and the ball itself is chrome plated brass. The throttle adjustment lever is electrostatically painted aluminium. Operating pressure is 16 bars and operating temperature is a maximum of 110 degrees C. Every valve is subjected to a 100% leakproofness test with an electronic system before it leaves the factory.

Seven sizes are produced, coded 101-MGV to 107-MGV from DN15 to DN65, so the same valve family covers everything from a terminal branch to a main riser. The valves are suitable for O2, N2O, O2/N2O, medical and surgical air, vacuum, CO2, helium, hydrogen, argon, N2 and mixtures of these gases. Applied standards are TS EN ISO 13485:2016 and TS EN ISO 13547:3+A1, with HTM 02-01, C11 NHS, BS EN 7396 and BS EN 18082 as the governing reference documents.

Frequently asked questions

What makes a ball valve suitable for oxygen service?

All parts are degreased before assembly, and the spherical section is oil-free apart from an oxygen compatible food oil. Hydrocarbon residues in an ordinary industrial valve can ignite in an oxygen-enriched atmosphere, which is why an untreated valve of the same size must never be substituted on a medical gas line.

Which sizes are available?

Seven sizes, coded 101-MGV to 107-MGV: 1/2" DN15, 3/4" DN20, 1" DN25, 1 1/4" DN32, 1 1/2" DN40, 2" DN50 and 2 1/2" DN65. That range covers terminal branches through to main risers.

Are the valves tested before delivery?

Yes. Every valve goes through a 100% leakproofness test with an electronic system. Applied standards are TS EN ISO 13485:2016 and TS EN ISO 13547:3+A1, with HTM 02-01, C11 NHS, BS EN 7396 and BS EN 18082 as the reference documents for the medical gas installation itself.

Which gases can these valves be used with?

O2, N2O, O2/N2O, medical and surgical air, vacuum, CO2, helium, hydrogen, argon, N2 and mixtures of these gases. Operating pressure is 16 bar and maximum operating temperature is 110 degrees C.
