Overview
The medical gas alarm unit watches the pressure in the hospital medical gas pipeline and warns staff as soon as a gas goes beyond its limits. When a pressure leaves the permitted band, the unit raises an audible alarm at the point of installation. The LCD screen shows the live pressure of each monitored gas digitally alongside the LED row that indicates high, normal and low pressure per service, so a glance tells the team which gas is in trouble and in which direction.
Two separate alarms are generated for each monitored gas. The low pressure alarm is high priority and indicates that the gas has dropped below its critical level. The high pressure alarm is also high priority and indicates that the gas has risen above its critical level. Limit values are set on the unit and are transmitted along with the measured pressures, so the current configuration can be verified remotely rather than at the panel.
The unit transmits information such as pressure values, current limit settings and alarms over an RS485/Modbus line to the building automation system, which is how the medical gas installation is brought into a central hospital monitoring platform. It is manufactured in accordance with HTM 2022, HTM 02-01, BS EN ISO 7396-1 and TSE EN ISO 61601-2. The Multi Alarm X is fitted in the Vexillum, Stainless and double stage regulator panel covers as well as being supplied as a standalone area alarm.

Frequently asked questions
How many gases can the Multi Alarm X monitor?
The unit is configured for the gas services present in the area it covers - typically vacuum, oxygen, medical air 4 bar, surgical air 7 bar and nitrous oxide, with an LED column and a pressure reading for each. The gas list is set with the order so the panel legend matches the installation.
Can it be connected to the hospital automation system?
Yes. Pressure values, current limit settings and alarm states are transmitted over an RS485/Modbus line, which is the standard route into a building management or SCADA platform. That allows medical gas alarms to be escalated centrally as well as locally.
What happens when a gas goes out of limits?
The unit raises an audible alarm and shows the condition on the LCD and the LED row. Both the low pressure and the high pressure alarms are classified as high priority, because either condition means the gas being delivered to the area is outside its safe band.
Which standards is the alarm built to?
The Tecnomed medical gas alarm unit is manufactured in accordance with HTM 2022, HTM 02-01, BS EN ISO 7396-1 and TSE EN ISO 61601-2, as stated in the product catalogue.
